Up on the Rooftop

The next time you walk outside, take a moment to gaze up at your roof. What do you see? Do you see even shingles that are all laying flat? Or do you see shingles that are starting to curl and that are covered in moss? You can tell a lot about the condition of your roof just by looking at it. If you are at all concerned about the state of your roof, then your first call should be to a roofing contractor. They can evaluate the situation and recommend repairs or replacement as needed. What Should You Do If Your Roof Was Damaged By Hail?

Lori Silva

When a severe storm comes through, it can cause a lot of damage to your house, especially if the storm included hail. It doesn't take big pieces of hail to do damage to your roof, even small-sized hail can cause damage, especially if the wind associated with the storm was really strong. When the storm is over, cleanup begins, and part of cleaning up is assessing the damage done to your home, especially your roof. If any part of your house is going to get damaged by the hail, your roof is the most likely part to take the hit. Cleanup in this case is going to have several steps.

Inspect Your Roof

The first thing you are going to need to do is to inspect your roof. If you are going to climb up on your roof to inspect it for damage, then you need to keep your safety in mind. Having a roof in good shape is important, but your safety is more important. Wait until the weather is good before you go up the ladder. If the weather is windy or everything is still wet, you are at risk of getting hurt while you are looking at the roof. If you do go up on your roof, make sure that you have someone to hold the ladder for you so that it is steady. After you are on the roof, carefully look around to see what kind of damage there is.

Call Your Homeowner's Insurance

After you have confirmed that you have damage to your roof, either by checking it yourself or seeing bits of roof on the ground, you need to talk to your homeowner's insurance. You have been paying them for this exact situation. They will send someone out to your house to check over the damage. Then the insurance company will tell you what they will cover.

Roofing Contractor

Once you have talked to the homeowner's insurance, it is time to call the roofing contractor to come in and do the actual repair work. Ask your insurance company if they have someone they prefer you to hire; otherwise, contact a couple of contractors and have them each give you a quote. Pick the best quote and have them arrange to work on your roof.

If you have just been through some severe either, you might have hail damage to your roof. There are steps to handling that damage and getting your roof repaired. Make sure that you work with a good roofing contractor so that your house will be protected as quickly as possible.
