Or do you see shingles that are starting to curl and that are covered in moss? You can tell a lot about the condition of your roof just by looking at it. If you are at all concerned about the state of your roof, then your first call should be to a roofing contractor. They can evaluate the situation and recommend repairs or replacement as needed. Roof Damaged From A Hail Storm? Information To Know If You Should Re-Roof, Repair, Or Replace The Roof

Lori Silva

If you had a bad hail storm and your roof was damaged, you have the option of re-roofing, repairing, or replacing the roof. Below is more information about each of these so you will know what you should do with your roof.

Re-Roofing the Roof

One option you have is re-roofing, which is much less expensive when compared to replacing the roof. Re-roofing is when a roofing contractor adds roof tiles over the current roofing tiles. This means your entire roof will be covered so it looks completely brand new. Adding a second layer of roofing tiles also adds protection to your roof. For example, roofing leaks will not happen as easily if the top layer is damaged in the future. This will take much less time than replacing a roof, and as a result you will pay much less in labor charges.

If only one large area of your roof was damaged, you could have only this area re-roofed. The contractor will ensure the new tiles match the current tiles on your roof so you could not tell the roof was repaired. If your entire roof was damaged due to hail you can have all the roof re-roofed.

Repairing the Roof

If you only see a little damage to the roof, you may be able to repair it. Have someone help you, and climb up on your roof to inspect it. Wear shoes that do not slip easily, and be careful as walking on a roof can cause damage.

If you see a few loose shingles, use roofing nails to tighten them back down. If you see only a few missing shingles, you can replace them with new ones. Just make sure to purchase shingles that match the current shingles on your home. A roofing contractor can also repair the roof for you.

Replacing the Roof

Another option you have is replacing the entire roof. A roofing contractor can remove more than one layer of your current roof if they need to.

If the current roof has a lot of damage, such as holes, rot, and more, replacing the roof would be a good option. This is because even if the current damaged roof is covered with new shingles, the damage will still happen to the roof underneath.

A roofing contractor can give you much more information about this. They will also give you their opinion on what you should choose to do with your roof.
